Live-In Program

The Vigilant Hose Company offers state-of-the-art dormitory style living quarters to provide increased duty staffing for emergency response.

In addition to the 8 live-in rooms an open bunkroom, with 15 beds, is available for day-to-day use.

This opportunity is ideal for university students who volunteer at home and would like to continue and advance their volunteer firefighting experience. 

The Vigilant Hose Company responds to more than 500 calls per year covering 57 square miles of first due area including Shippensburg University.

The Vigilant Hose is located just 1 mile from the entrance to Shippensburg University and regularly house students at other schools such as Harrisburg Area Community College (a 45 minutes drive north on Interstate 81).

In return for your service residents are assigned a private room, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, kitchen, lounge, a quiet study area and an in-house fitness room. Personal protective gear and training are also included.
