The Vigilant Hose Company is the oldest active all volunteer fire company in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Organized on February 22, 1843, we are one of three fire companies located in the Borough of Shippensburg. Along with Cumberland Valley Hose Company and West End Fire and Rescue we combine to make up the Shippensburg Fire Department, Cumberland County, Taskforce 4.
After 169 years on the same corner downtown we built a new station along with the Shippensburg Area EMS. The Shippensburg Emergency Services Building was opened in June 2012. Currently operating 2 engines, a tanker, brush and traffic unit, we provide all types of Fire, Rescue and EMS services to the Borough of Shippensburg, Shippensburg Township, Shippensburg University and Southampton Township Cumberland County, as well as mutual aid to all surrounding municipalities. Protecting nearly 15,000 citizens and over 8,000 SU students in our first due area of more than 57 square miles
All Fire and Emergency Operations and Fire Prevention Activities for the Vigilant Hose Company are managed by our Fire Chief Clyde Tinner, and all administrative tasks are supervised by our President Ken Nehf, Jr.
For Firehouse Tours, Fire Prevention Programs, Smoke Detector Program or Address Signs please contact the President, Fire Chief or call the station.
