4-28-12 VIGILANT MEMBERS PLAY IN BENEFIT ICE HOCKEY GAME
On Saturday April 28th Vigilant members Lt. Brady Oursler & FF Tim
Wanner participated in the annual Dauphin vs. Cumberland Police &
Fire Charity Hockey Game at Twin Ponds East. You'll notice in
the one picture that FF Wanner is sitting away from the rest of the
team. Leave it to Probie to be the 1st player sent into the
penalty box! Way to represent guys!
ALL the proceeds from each year’s games go to an organization or
person in need. This year the benefactor is Allie Speck, a 21 year
old girl whose battle began in 2009 with Sarcoma and several tumors
in her liver. Her numerous tests, procedures, treatments and
surgeries have been at John’s Hopkins. The latest surgery has had
her in the hospital for over a month where tumors where removed from
her lungs resulting in her losing the lower part of one of her
lungs. Her mother is a nurse at a local surgical center and has been
unable to work for months now to being by her daughter’s side during
these surgeries and her father does seasonal work. Allie has had to
put college on hold twice due to this. Insurance is helping
somewhat, but only puts a small dent in the mounting medical bills,
but does nothing to help with the travel and other expenses for the
family to be together in Maryland by John's Hopkins.
We as Public Servants have our whole careers based on helping those,
in need at a moment’s notice, never wavering from answering a call
for help. We have been honored to have been asked to help this young
woman, afflicted in the prime of her life with this Battle and no
explanation as to why it has happened to her.
